Our wedding was everything we wanted it to be with just the right amount of fairy dust. It was amazing, by our definition and will definitely go down as one of our most memorable days.
The day started at 8am for me and the ‘I Do’ Crew. We got ready and dressed at the venue which was ideal. We did not have to consider travel time from one place to another and we also got to monitor the progress of our décor suppliers as they set up. It felt great to walk into a clean room with a view of the ocean on the morning of the wedding. The sea breeze kept us calm amidst all the excitement.
The hair and make-up artist arrived on time to get the
glitter ball rolling. She waved her make-up brush wand and suddenly we were the
Kardashians, without the booty. Many
selfies were taken, before the camera crew arrived to work their magic. We
posed, pouted and flaunted our dresses. We were starting to feel like real
celebrities. We ate burgers just before we got dressed. Outside we could hear
the laughter and chirps of the groom and groomsmen as they started their
photo-shoot and attempted to look natural.
As guests started to arrive, the bridesmaids and I watched
from our room. We had a bird’s eye view, so we noted all the punctual guests. A
few minutes later we fitted the veil onto my head and prepared for our walk
down the aisle. My veil refused to stay on my head after it was lifted off my face,
even after two attempts to reset. I made a quick decision to ditch it for the
rest of the day, besides for the final creative photo-shoot.
Our creative photo-shoot was done in a forest. The forest was enchanting and served as a gorgeous
background for our photo-shoot. The
weather was beautiful; the breeze blew our hair in the right direction and the sun
reflected perfectly off the camera lens. The camera crew was so ecstatic about
the natural lighting we were getting through the tall trees, that even I
developed an appreciation for natural lighting. We had such fun in the forest
trying to maneuver in between the trees and through the gravel paths.
Surprisingly, my dress only caught a few twigs and still maintained its’
original colour. The same cannot be said for my shoes.
While in the forest, we heard music in the distance. This was
strange considering there were no buildings or people surrounding the forest. We later realised that the music was playing from
the Mercedes Benz that drove us to the forest but had to stop half way as its’
beautiful design did not allow it to go further on the gravel road. The driver,
my uncle, decided to have a ‘boot jol’, in the forest, during our hour long
photo-shoot, and invited a few other guests from our wedding. (Boot
jol: when a car boot is discreetly used as a mini bar in an unexpected area, such
as a parking lot). The number of boot jols increased at the wedding. I did
not see any, however many of the guests disappeared for a while after our
reception and reappeared later, on the dance floor, with more moves than Mick Jagger.
Our day was mostly stress-free, mainly because Reinald and our friend, Bivash spent the day (and night) before, at the wedding venue making sure all was in order, while I attended my pre-wedding celebration. (Reinald’s pre-celebration was held a week before the wedding). My sister and her husband kept our ducks in a row, while we couldn’t and the ‘I Do’ Crew ensured that Reinald and I were always one step ahead of our game. We are grateful for our friends and family and the stars that were aligned to make our day magical!
Love
Mrs Jags
