Presents, pretty clothes & people we love!

Birthdays are awesome! There's cake, presents, pretty clothes & people we love.

When my friends and I were at university we always ensured there was cake, presents and well pretty clothes was a constant birthday or no birthday. The best part of our birthdays was that we often tried to get each other characterised or personalised birthday cakes and cards.
The ideas for the cakes and cards came from the things we were obsessed with at the time. My personal favourite was a Jack Skellington cake and card I got on my 21st birthday. Jack Skellington is an animated character from the movie A Nightmare before Christmas.
For our friend who loves pink and Hello Kitty, we bought cupcakes and attempted drawing Hello Kitty faces on them. It was a lot of fun and hard work considering it was our first time decorating cupcakes.

Another friend got a monstrous birthday card with a Jungle Oats flying heart. She loved Jungle Oats bars. It was her Kryptonite.

As you can tell a lot of effort was put into these cakes and cards as we tried to make arrangements without causing any suspicion. At times we lied, hid and even paid people off with the promise of a piece of cake...and it worked!

The cakes never failed to surprise and the cards are treasures we’ll keep for a long time. As for the memories they’ll never be forgotten.

As you may know, I celebrated my birthday last week and even though my friends and I are no longer at university or live in the same province they did make me a personalised card with the traditional Roses are red poem and inside jokes.
To add to the presents, pretty clothes and people I love, I also received a new laptop from my dear boyfriend at midnight, really cool trainers from my dad, lots of clothes and accessories from my mum including a birthday cake & breakfast.

Birthdays are awesome and the people around you make them even more awesome ;).
I la ma peeps (in my gangster voice).

Peace
Verusha

First Post :)

It’s the 19th of September and it’s two days before my birthday. There’s excitement in the air and I want to share it with you. So, I’ve decided to launch and publish my first blog today. Here it goes…
Author of some sort!

During my junior and elementary schooling years I was often asked to write a composition about myself. (Composition refers to a paragraph and not a piece of music). I’m not sure if we were given this task to keep us busy in order to compensate for lack of preparation on the side of my teachers or to genuinely keep track of our writing skills. Anyway, I wish I had kept my compositions.
If I remember correctly my compositions would have probably started with…

My name is Verusha Naidoo and I am in grade 4B. I live in Durban. There are 4 people in my family, my mum, my dad, my sister and I. My family and I go to the beach on weekends.  My favourite colour is pink (yeah right!). I also like purple. I have a dog and I play with him every day…blah blah blah!
These days my compositions are no longer that simple! They now consist of compound and complex sentences, comparatives and superlatives and even phrasal verbs. My compositions are complex!

My name is still Verusha Naidoo however I’m no longer in grade 4 ;). I am a Drama Honours graduate and an EFL (English as a foreign language) teacher. I currently have my hands in few different jars in terms of a job and…no drugs, is not one of them!
I love writing especially when I’m inspired. For me, inspiration can come from the smallest of things you just have to be open to it. I hate clutter, love to do lists and absolutely love putting things in boxes. I also love gift boxes and making my own gift boxes, cards and even book covers. I can’t draw to save my life but I am a great decorator.

I’m a pescetarian and would have an animal farm in my back yard if I could. However my cat and hamster will suffice for now.  I have a reserve tank of anger for those who think nothing of killing animals for fur, leather or ivory.
I’m South African Indian, meaning that I was born in South Africa and so were my parents and their parents. However we do have some heritage that traces back to India.

My Two Cents…is a place I come to, to share, learn and be inspired. So please feel free to leave your thoughts, ideas and suggestions here.

Welcome! I look forward to reading your two cents…

Peace
Verusha ;)
